SOME FACTS ABOUT REIKI
What is Reiki?
Reiki is a gentle energy healing method from Japan that was rediscovered in the 19th century by Dr. Mikao Usui, a Buddhist monk. It draws on spiritual energy to treat physical ailments and conditions through the laying on of hands. If at this point you are thinking "oh... that's where this is going...", please read on anyway, because Reiki is not "hocus pocus". The effectiveness of Reiki is scientifically proven and has been recognised by the World Health Organisation since 2007!
It does not involve any "manipulation" such as pressure, massage, medication, kinesiology tapes or similar. For a treatment, the Reiki practitioner only needs his hands. He places them on certain parts of the patient's body. It is not even necessary to have physical contact with the patient. So the Reiki practitioner does not have to touch the body, but can also just hold his hands over certain areas of the body.
Reiki is a holistic healing method that aims to bring the person being treated back into balance. Holistic means that the method works on your body, mind, emotions and spirit - so it covers all aspects of your being. Reiki can also be used to promote personal and spiritual growth. Through the application, blockages in the form of negative beliefs, emotions and memories should be released. Your self-healing powers are thus activated and your body and mind can regenerate.
The Japanese word "Reiki" is often translated as "universal life force" or "universal life energy". However, a more appropriate term would be "spiritual energy". The word is divided into two parts: "Rei" means "sacred, soul, spirit, the wisdom and knowledge of the whole universe" or "divine atmosphere". It means the higher intelligence that controls the creative power of the universe. So Reiki is connected to the creative power, source, God, universe - whatever you want to call it. Just use your word for it. Keep in mind that Reiki does not belong to any religion and is not a religion in itself! The word "Ki" in "ReiKI" means the energy that flows through every living thing - plants, animals, people. It is also the energy that is everywhere in one way or another. In Far Eastern teachings, it is assumed that the entire cosmos is based on Ki energy, which also flows through the human body. Comparable concepts exist in other cultures: "Qi" or "Chi" is the name given to the life force in China, "Prana" or "Kundalini" in India. In Japan it is called "Ki". More and more European doctors and psychologists are working with the life energy as a complementary treatment method.
What is the effect of Reiki?
Reiki combines ancient traditions of healing with modern, scientific models. Our bodies are naturally energetic. Your bones vibrate at a lower frequency, while your blood and thoughts, for example, vibrate at a higher frequency. This magnetic pulse is called the bio-magnetic field. In Far Eastern teachings, this is called "Ki", "Qi", "Kundalini" or "Prana".
Doctors have developed devices that can measure the bio-magnetic field. Measuring this field very often gives a better indication of a person's health and what is going on in their body than traditional electronic measurements.
When a Reiki practitioner holds a Reiki session, the energy emanating from their hands produces a much larger bio-magnetic reading than is the case for a non-practitioner. This reading is 7-10 Hz and is therefore in the theta and alpha range. These frequencies are associated with physical healing. After a Reiki treatment, people can experience the following:
These observations have been proven and confirmed by numerous scientific empirical studies as well as case studies. Reiki is therefore not a method that you have to believe in for it to work. In 2007, Reiki was even recognised by the World Health Organisation as an alternative healing method. Meanwhile, some hospitals employ Reiki practitioners and thus complement their conventional medical portfolio. These include the Unfallkrankenhaus Berlin (a teaching hospital of the Berlin Charité), the renowned REHAB Basel, the HELIOS Klinik Wesermarsch in Nordenham, the Universitätsklinikum Carl Gustav Carus at the TU Dresden and the Breast Care Institute (BCI) in Munich. Reiki practitioners can also be found in public institutions such as hospices, nursing homes and retirement homes, physiotherapy practices and wellness centres. Also represented for years in the most renowned hospitals in Madrid / Spain.
How does a Reiki treatment work?
There are two types of Reiki treatment. One is an on-site treatment, the other is a remote treatment. Both types of treatment are equally effective. With an on-site treatment, you meet with a Reiki practitioner in their practice and immerse yourself in deep relaxation. Reiki is also wellness! In most Reiki practices you will be greeted with relaxing meditation music, soothing scents and aromas.
An on-site Reiki treatment lasts between 45 and 60 minutes. The Reiki practitioner will go over your entire body with their hands and channel the Reiki energy into your system. There is no need for physical contact and you will remain fully clothed. Only your jewellery and metallic objects will need to be taken off as they can impede the flow of energy.
With a Reiki distance treatment, the same thing happens, except that you are not in the same room as the Reiki practitioner. This works? Yes! Energy knows no space or time and can be sent anywhere in the world by the Reiki practitioner. You make an appointment with the Reiki practitioner at a certain time. He or she does the treatment while you relax at home.
Both forms of treatment are equally effective and powerful. Many patients even prefer the Reiki distance treatment because they feel more comfortable in their own homes and can let go better there. A Reiki treatment can become emotional under certain circumstances. Especially when pent-up emotions can finally be released thanks to the treatment.
What reactions can I expect during treatment?
Every person reacts quite differently to a Reiki treatment. However, many experience the following:
Some people...
- ... start seeing lights and colours during the treatment.
- ... experience emotional reactions up to and including emotional outbursts. Feeling is Healing!
- ... feel warmth or cold during the treatment. This can be all over the body or only in certain parts of the body.
- ... start to twitch slightly or move involuntarily.
- ... get a rumbling in the stomach.
- ... fall asleep during the treatment, which is perfectly okay! The Reiki treatment is still effective - just as if you hadn't fallen asleep.
- ... don't feel anything like that and that is also completely normal! You don't have to feel or experience anything during the treatment for it to be effective.
